CHRISTIAN AND CLASSICAL GREECE – 10 days
Thessaloniki – Amphipolis – Philippi – Kavala (Neapolis) – Berea – Vergina – Meteora – Delphi Olympia – Mycenae – Cenchrea – Corinth – Epidaurus – Nafplion – Athens – Aegina – Poros – Hydra
DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN THESSALONIKI
Transfer to your Hotel in the city of Thessaloniki.
DAY 2 – AMPHIPOLIS – PHILIPPI – KAVALA (NEAPOLIS)
After a brief stop at Amphipolis we make our way to Philippi. Here we will see the Agora and the prison where Paul and Sylas were kept. After worship at the baptismal site of Lydia we shall continue to Kavala the ancient port of Neapolis.
DAY 3 – THESSALONICA – BEREA – VERGINA – KALAMBAKA
This morning we shall drive to the upper part of the old city walls that offer excellent views of the city. After our sightseeing drive we make our way to Berea and see the Byzantine mosaic commemorating Paul’s preaching there. On to Vergina, the first capital of Macedonia, where we will visit the tomb of Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. The tour also includes a visit to the museum that houses the priceless artifacts found here.
DAY 4 – METEORA MONASTERIES – DELPHI
Visit two of the spectacular Byzantine monasteries at Meteora, perched precariously on huge finger-like rocks. View the superb icons, old manuscripts and unique mosaics and frescoes.
DAY 5 – DELPHI – OLYMPIA
The ancient oracle of Delphi is our visit this morning. We will also visit the museum before we drive to Olympia.
DAY 6 – OLYMPIA – MYCENAE – CORINTH
Today we visit the birthplace and home of the Olympic Games. We shall see the stadium where the first games took place in 776 BC. Then on to Mycenae, to visit the remains of the prehistoric citadel, the Mycenaean Palace and the tomb of King Agamemnon.
DAY 7 – ANCIENT CORINTH – CENCHREAE – EPIDAURUS – NAFPLION
Our first stop today is the ancient port of Cenchreae. Then we proceed to Ancient Corinth, home to the Apostle Paul for 1½ years. On to Epidaurus, the best-preserved ancient theatre in all of Greece, easily seating 12,000 spectators. After some free time in the seaside town of Nafplion we return to our hotel.
DAY 8 – ATHENS
Today we shall see the highlights of Athens including visits to the Acropolis and Mars Hill, where the Apostle Paul preached to the Athenians.
DAY 9 – ONE DAY CRUISE
We will spend one wonderful day sailing around the Aegean islands. We shall stop at the islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra. There will be free time on each island to shop and explore.
DAY 10 – ATHENS DEPARTURE
Depart from Athens.
